The old town of Estepona is famous for its attractive architecture, with its traditional houses and monuments. Today Estepona is the main municipality at the Costa del Sol that offers a lot of green spaces.

Estepona’s old town is distinguished by a particularly attractive layout, with its most beautiful houses and monuments atop a hill overlooking the town. The houses are old and for the most part, humble. Only a couple of buildings, including the town hall and a few other buildings are particularly intricate, but a couple among these are abandoned in ruins. Near the town hall you will find the Plaza del Reloj (clocktower square) featuring an antique band stand and a nice pine tree. Walk down the streets from here and you reach the Mercado de abastos municipal market, where you can still buy fresh vegetables and fish, although the market seems a bit abandoned these days. The market is on the sight of the ruins of a Christian and perhaps once Moorish castle (historians disagree). One of the towers still stands around which a beautiful garden is being maintained of giant ficus, jasmine, and other flowering plants.
