The Natural Park of Doñana is surrounded by the biggest and historical most important river of Spain, the Guadalquivir.

Superlatives abound when the time comes to describe this incredible natural park formed by the estuary of Spain’s largest and most historically significant river, the Guadalquivir. As a measure of its importance, the Guadalquivir is adjacent to or near the towns of Cádiz, Sanlucar de Barrameda, Jerez, Sevilla, and Cordoba. Its mouth into the Atlantic is between Cádiz to the east and Huelva to the west, both of which have rich protected wetlands of their own. There are more birds, rodents, and large mammals here than you can shake a stick at. The park is duly protected so noisy and otherwise troublesome tourists don’t converge en-masse to places where the wildlife goes about its daily activities, but key observation points are made available and accessible via trails or chauffeured transport. Of course, the park is most famous for its flamingos and the endangered and elusive lynx…
