El Torcal possesses probably the most impressive formations of limestone in whole Europe. You can find this place at about 1.000 meters up the village of Villanueva de la Concepción.

El Torcal offers what are possibly Europe’s most spectacular limestone formations. The site is just over 1,000 meters high near the village of Villanueva de la Concepción. The stone has been chiselled away by wind and water over the millennia, and the formations resemble piles of disks of gradually changing diameters. On a clear day, the Mediterranean coast and Africa can be seen from here.

Nearby, the Fuente de Piedra lagoon is – along with Doñana (Cadiz) and the Odiel (Huelva) wetlands – one of the areas to spot flocks of flamingos during their annual stopover in Andalusia.
